Berge Junior High School

Lyngdal and America
From 20 to 24 September Amerikakofferten visited Berge Junior High School. The whole ninth grade – almost 70 students – had a full timetable for one week studying how the contact with America had affected Lyngdal. A huge amount of material was collected: old photographs, recipes, and both pictures and information about the America house, American objects, cars and fashions. Several students also made a video showing how Lyngdal has been influenced by America.

During this week a project office was set up with a scanner and other equipment where the students could borrow digital cameras and have old pictures scanned.

On Friday preparations were made for the presentation on the school’s small stage. There were some entertaining and interesting lessons when the groups presented what they had worked on during the project week. Some of the groups had made a play, others presented a mannequin show and songs, while several had made video films. A number of placards were exhibited, and some of the students showed objects that had been brought home from America. During the project week many of them had collected recipes that Norwegian Americans had brought back and they served samples of brownies, muffins, apple pie and cookies they had baked. Mmm…. delicious
