Interview
with a grandmother about food from America
Linn Aina from Lista Junior High interviewed her
grandmother, Gladys, about American food. Her grandparents lived in America
for several years:
- What’s the difference between American and Norwegian food?
The difference between American and Norwegian food is that we ate a lot
of salad and vegetables, tuna fish salad, meatloaf and baked potatoes. But
we eat all this in Norway now too. Today there’s a lot of the same food in
both Norway and America.
- Did you bring any food customs or cookery books
back with you to
Norway?
Why?
We brought American food habits to Norway because we liked
the food and it tasted good. We brought a lot of cookery books back to
Norway.
- How did you get hold of the special American ingredients
for the food?
We got them from people who visited us from America, and we
brought them home each time we went to America.
- Which dishes from America have influenced your diet?
Turkey, french toast with maple syrup, tuna fish salad with
macaroni.
